MCHENRY COUNTY, Ill. - One woman was killed and another was injured following a single-vehicle rollover crash last week in unincorporated Woodstock.
Belen Estrada, 29, of Woodstock, was pronounced dead after the vehicle she was traveling in crashed in McHenry County on May 15, according to the Lake County Coroner's Office.
At 10:45 a.m., members of the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, Lakewood Police Department, Woodstock Police Department and Woodstock Fire Department responded to a crash on Dean Street near the intersection of Gayle Drive.
According to preliminary information, Estrada and a 22-year-old woman were traveling southbound on Dean Street in a 2003 Toyota Corolla. The Corolla exited the left of the roadway north of the intersection with Gayle Drive and re-entered the roadway, crossing over into the northbound lane of travel.
The Corolla then exited the roadway to the west and crossed over Gayle Drive as it continued south, officials said. It then entered a yard at the southwest corner of the intersection before it rolled over and struck a tree, finally coming to rest on its top.
Estrada was ejected from the vehicle and was given CPR by a bystander before she was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, officials said. She was pronounced dead from blunt force injuries on Friday, May 17, according to the medical examiner's office.
The driver was extricated from the vehicle and flown by LifeNet to Advocate Condell and was listed in serious condition.
The driver was wearing a seatbelt but Estrada was not, according to officials.
Police said alcohol and speed were believed to be factors in the crash. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
