Bears stifled by Chargers in 30-13 loss
The Los Angeles Chargers routed the Chicago Bears 30-13 in front of a prime-time audience.
CHICAGO - The Chicago Bears are sending a second round pick to the Washington Commanders for standout defensive end Montez Sweat, according to reports.
Sweat, 27, is in the final year of his rookie contract and looks primed for a big payday in free agency, whether it's with the Bears or elsewhere.
The move is the first selloff by the Commanders, who are 3-5 after losing five of six since starting the season with back-to-back victories
Sweat has recorded 6.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in eight games this season with the Commanders. The 6-foot-6 edge rusher out of Mississippi State University is in the last year of his contract.
The Bears are looking to shore up a unit that ranks 30th in passing defense and 28th in scoring defense.
The Bears' next game is Sunday at New Orleans.
Sweat won't be part of the future in Washington after the front office already committed big money to defensive tackles Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne and could do the same with Young, a local product who was once considered the new face of the franchise.
After a 38-31 loss Sunday to Philadelphia, Sweat said his agent was keeping him abreast of any trade talks.
Teams have until 3 p.m. to make deals before the NFL trade deadline closes.
