CHICAGO (AP) - The Blackhawks acquired Rob Scuderi in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday night for fellow defenseman Trevor Daley.
The 36-year-old Scuderi has four assists and 32 blocked shots in 25 games with Pittsburgh this season. He has eight goals and 96 assists in 745 games over 12 NHL seasons with Pittsburgh and Los Angeles.
Scuderi, who won a Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh in 2009 and Los Angeles in 2012, was a late scratch before Pittsburgh's 4-1 loss to Washington on Monday.
Pittsburgh will pay a third of the remaining value on the four-year, $13.5-million deal Scuderi signed in 2013.
Daley, 32, was acquired by Chicago in the July trade that sent Patrick Sharp to Dallas. He had six assists in 29 games with the Blackhawks. The Penguins are hoping the slick skating Daley can help generate opportunities for an offense that has struggled to score goals.
"He can play well on the power play," Pittsburgh forward David Perron said. "The more speed you have back there to jump up in the play and support the forwards and make good plays is probably going to be a really good addition for us."
Daley made his NHL debut with the Stars in 2003 and has 67 goals and 170 assists in 785 games over 12 seasons.
