The Chicago White Sox had undergone an offseason of change, and Wednesday morning brought the latest difference.
The White Sox announced in a press release Wednesday the team is officially changing the name of its stadium from Guaranteed Rate Field to Rate Field.
This move goes in hand with a change within the namesake of the stadium itself.
"We recently changed our company name from Guaranteed Rate to Rate to make it easier for customers to contact us to help them with their home-buying needs," Rate CEO Victor Ciardelli said in a written statement. "We are now changing the name of this iconic ballpark to Rate Field. Jerry Reinsdorf and his team have been nothing but amazing to us in this process. We couldn’t be happier with our partnership with the Chicago White Sox in this transformation. We are thrilled to showcase our new name on this legendary ballpark for the best fans in baseball in the greatest city in the world."
This is the third time the White Sox's stadium has swapped names. In 1991, the White Sox opened the stadium with the name Comiskey Park II which honored the long-time ball park the Sox played from 1910 to 1990.
The Sox renamed the park U.S. Cellular Field from 2003 to 2016 before adopting the name Guaranteed Rate Field in 2016.
The press release says the stadium's name change reflects the company's modern evolution and its deep roots in the community.
"Rate has long been a valued naming rights partner, sharing the White Sox passion for the Chicago community and sports fans near and far," White Sox chief revenue and marketing officer Brooks Boyer said in a written statement. "Like the White Sox, Rate is rooted in Chicago and committed to providing elite service to its customers. We look forward to welcoming fans to Rate Field to enjoy our ballpark experience, creating lasting memories for fans for years to come."
