Igboananike scores twice, Fire beat Red Bulls 3-2
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (AP) - Kennedy Igboananike broke a tie in the 73rd minute with his second goal of the game and the Chicago Fire beat New York 3-2 on Wednesday night to end the Red Bulls' six-game undefeated streak.
New York (11-7-6) has not won in Chicago since 2005.
After New York's Sacha Kljestan opened the scoring on a penalty kick in the 10th minute, Igboananike tied it in the 22nd for Chicago (7-13-5). He slotted Gilberto's through ball inside the far post. Patrick Nyarko made it 2-1 in the 41st. Gilberto sent in a cross that was chested down by Michael Stephens, and Nyarko swiveled for the finish.
Ronald Zubar tied it at 2 in the 49th on a trick play. Lloyd Sam started a corner kick with a disguised touch, allowing Kljestan to dribble it out for a centering pass. The deflected ball fell to Zubar's feet for a redirection.
David Accam fed an open Igboananike on a fast break for the winner.
