Luke Altmeyer talks the 38-28 win over Northwestern at Wrigley

Luke Altmeyer was a key piece in Illinois' resurgence. He talked about getting the ninth win of the season over Northwestern on Saturday.

Illinois football got some great news on Saturday.

Before the Fighting Illini men's basketball team took on No. 1 Tennessee, quarterback Luke Altmeyer informed the Illinois fan base of his future plans.

He's coming back for the 2025 season.

"This community means so much to me," Altmeyer said, speaking to the fans at the State Farm Center. "I'm just so excited for next season."'

Altmeyer was a key piece in Illinois' nine-win season in 2024. He threw for 2,543 yards and 21 touchdowns while throwing just five interceptions.

This came after a tumultuous 2023 season where Altmeyer was benched, but returned in 2024 as the unquestioned leader on the Illinois football roster.

Altmeyer, a transfer from Ole Miss, was key in Illinois' three wins over ranked teams in 2024. Altmeyer only passed for 80 yards in the Illini's win over Michigan, but followed that up with a 379-yard and three-touchdown performance as Illinois held off Purdue's upset bid.

Next year, Altmeyer will have to replicate some success without his top two receivers in 2024: Pat Bryant and Zakhari Franklin.
