CHICAGO - The Chicago White Sox are hiring Will Venable as their next manager, according to reports.
MLB.com reported late Tuesday night – citing sources – that Venable will become the 44th manager in franchise history. He was most recently the associate manager for the Texas Rangers.
According to ESPN's Jesse Rogers, the final three candidates for the job were Venable, Cleveland Guardians bench coach Craig Albernaz and Sox interim manager Grady Sizemore.
Venable comes to the White Sox with an impressive resume. He was on the coaching staffs under Joe Maddon, Alex Cora, and Bruce Bochy with the Cubs, Red Sox and Rangers, respectively. With Bouchy, Venable won the World Series in 2023.
Venable also celebrated his 42nd birthday on Tuesday.
The White Sox just finished a season where they set the modern-era record for most losses.
"We have built out our criteria," White Sox general manager Chris Getz said near the end of the season. "We know the desired outcomes after we go through the deep candidate pool. We will find the best fit for us."

Venable was a finalist for another MLB manager role this offseason, too. According to the Miami Herald, both Albernaz and Venable emerged as finalists for the Miami Marlins managerial job.
The White Sox beat out the Marlins for the Venable sweepstakes.
According to ESPN's Jesse Rogers, Dodgers first base coach Clayton McCullough and Padres special assistant A.J. Ellis were also in consideration for the Sox's manager role. McCullough was eliminated and Ellis exited the running for the White Sox's managerial job this week, Rogers reported.
It remains to be seen if Sizemore will remain on the White Sox's managerial staff in the 2025 season.
This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
