Three people were shot, one fatally Thursday afternoon in Chicago's Roseland neighborhood.

POP! Heights Park is part of an initiative to re-purpose nearly one million square feet of blighted areas on the Far South Side to spur economic growth and repopulate communities. The park is accessible to thousands of people living in Roseland, Morgan Park and West Pullman.

Police said the man, 27, was standing in front of a residence when he was shot in the neck.

The vehicle and a weapon were recovered, ISP said.

A man was shot while walking outside early Friday in the Roseland neighborhood.

An unknown offender approached the victim and fired shots, striking him in the neck, Chicago police said.

NEW DETAILS: Prosecutors say Kentrell Gayden was found hiding in the bushes after allegedly shooting a 7-year-old boy who was on his way to church. Gayden was also wanted on a warrant out of Will County.

Legend Barr, 7, was heading to church with his family Sunday morning when 22-year-old Kentrell Gayden allegedly shot him with a "really big machine gun."

"It's not uncommon for someone to walk out and see someone attempting to steal their vehicle," said Chicago Police Deputy Chief Larry Snelling. "Please if you see this, just call the police. Do not try to confront these individuals. I understand that it's really hard to walk out to see someone breaking into or damaging something you paid your hard-earned dollars for, but it's really not worth it."

A 7-year-old boy was shot Sunday in Roseland on Chicago's Far South Side.

Police said the victim, 30, was hit in the head and was pronounced dead at Christ Hospital.

Bail has been denied for the suspect in a brutal attack on the CTA Red Line this month.
