What we know:
CHICAGO - Temperatures are well above normal today, with highs expected to reach the low to mid-50s.
The record high for Jan. 30 is 55 degrees, set in 1988, and today’s temperatures could come close.
Cloud cover is increasing, and rain is expected to move in this afternoon and evening.
What's next:
Rain will arrive in scattered waves from south to north later today, but overnight hours may see some breaks in precipitation.
A stronger round of rain is expected Friday morning, with heavy downpours possible from 6 a.m. to noon before showers taper off in the afternoon. Temperatures will gradually fall into the mid-30s by Friday evening.
Weekend Outlook:
Saturday will be mostly cloudy with highs in the mid to upper 30s, staying above average for this time of year.
A big warm-up arrives Sunday, with highs likely reaching the lower 50s—potentially challenging a record high.
Cooler air returns next week, with highs around 40 on Monday before dropping into the 30s on Tuesday and Wednesday. Rain and possibly snow showers could develop by midweek.
