Severe storms continue to bring damaging winds and hail to the Chicago area

Emily Wahls provides a weather update as several counties in the Chicago area remain under severe thunderstorm warnings.

Showers and storms are possible at any time on Thursday across Chicago, and some could be severe, especially in the late afternoon into early evening.

Much of the intensity of the later activity will hinge on the morning and any midday storms. The first round already moved in and Chicagoans need to be ready in case any warnings are issued.

Tornado warnings during the morning were not likely. Highs warm into the 70s and if the atmosphere can recover from the morning action, the storms in the afternoon could be intense with all storm hazards possible.

Chicago weather: Multiple rounds of scattered thunderstorms possible

Scattered showers and storms will cover the Chicago area throughout the day with the most severe storms hitting later in the afternoon into early evening. There will be some strong winds area-wide, but Northwest Indiana is under a wind advisory until 6 p.m.

Friday will be partly cloudy with highs in the 60s.

Saturday looks quite chilly. Highs in the upper 40s. There might be a rain or snow shower, but no biggie.
