Chicago braces for snowy morning, more frigid temps
CHICAGO - Chicago could receive an inch of snow during the morning commute, followed by blustery conditions, highs in the teens, and frigid single-digit lows.
Chicago weather forecast
What we know:
A compact yet potent system will likely drop between a coating and 1 inch of snow during today's morning commute. One saving grace with this system is the vanguard of cloud cover, which has helped prop temperatures up a few degrees-in the low teens across most of Chicagoland.
That said, at these very cold temperatures, salt will be quite ineffective on roadways so expect some travel delays.
Snow should fall across the Chicago area between roughly 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. The rest of the day will feature partial clearing, blustery and cold conditions with temperatures maxing out in the teens. Tonight will be frigid with single digit lows and subzero wind chills.
Future forecast
Timeline:
Wednesday: Tomorrow won’t be quite as cold with highs in the low 20s under mostly sunny skies. Overnight there could be some flurries.
Thursday and Friday: Both days will be much milder with temperatures well above freezing with a shot at 40 degrees on Friday.
Saturday: Friday night into Saturday morning there still appears to be a chance for some precipitation which might start as rain and end as light snow but no significant accumulations are expected.
Next week: Another blast of arctic air arrives, likely colder than the one we are currently in.
