Chicago weather: Heavy downpours may impact your morning commute

Scattered showers are moving through the Chicago area this evening, but we'll see a lull in the activity during the overnight.

Plan for mostly cloudy skies tonight with just a few stray showers, and then another push of rain will arrive on Friday morning.

Friday Forecast :

Tomorrow starts off rainy with heavy downpours possible from about 6 a.m. through noon Friday.

Showers are expected to taper off during the afternoon hours with temperatures slipping into the mid 30s.

Weekend Weather :

Saturday and Sunday will be mostly cloudy. Saturday's temperatures are expected to be cool, but still above normal, topping out in the upper 30s.

A big warmup is in store for Sunday with highs likely to rise into the lower 50s. This will rival the record high temperature at O'Hare for February 2.

Next Week:

Temperatures will trend cooler going into the workweek with highs around 40 on Monday and then dropping to the 30s on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Showers and possibly snow showers will return to the area by the middle of next week.
