CHICAGO - We have three rounds of snow that will impact the Chicago area in the next 24 to 36 hours. With that said, snow totals will only range from roughly a half inch to two inches. Slick travel will be possible at times between this evening and Friday evening.
Some of the heavier bursts of snow are moving through Chicagoland this evening. These snow showers will be capable of quickly reducing visibility and coating the roadways.
Any untreated surfaces may become slick. Temperatures will drop into the upper 20s to low 30s tonight.
Another quick round of snow will be possible early Friday, possibly impacting the Friday morning commute. Most of the snow showers will taper off by midday, but then lake effect snow will likely develop, impacting locations along the lake from Chicago southward, and then into NW Indiana.
Friday will be cold and windy with highs in the lower 30s. North winds will gust as high as 35 to 40 mph tomorrow, leading to bitter cold wind chills and reduced visibility due to blowing snow.
Calmer conditions are expected for the weekend ahead. Saturday and Sunday will be partly sunny to mostly cloudy. Temperatures will be cold on Saturday with highs in the 20s. Slightly warmer temperatures are expected on Sunday with highs in the low 30s.
Another system will move through on Monday, bringing the chance for scattered rain. Highs will be in the upper 30s Monday afternoon. As of now, it appears that Christmas Eve will be mainly dry, but we could see rain on Christmas Day.
