Morning forecast for Chicagoland on Feb. 15th

FOX 32's Mike Caplan breaks down today's snowy weather outlook.

Another storm started hitting the Chicago area Sunday evening, and might drop more than a foot of snow by Tuesday.

South of Chicago, the Kankakee and Valparaiso areas are going to get 4 to 8 inches. West of the city, in Ottawa, DeKalb and Elgin, people could see 2 to 5 inches of snow. Areas along the lakefront could end up with a foot of snow by the storm's end.

Lake-effect snow on Monday will bring about 7 to 15 inches at Midway Airport, the weather service said. With more snow likely Tuesday, O’Hare Airport could see a foot.

Meanwhile, the area was under a wind chill advisory until noon Monday, with Valentine’s Day one of the coldest in years.

The high temperature Sunday was 4 degrees, which broke the last coldest high temperature set on Feb. 14 in 1943, when temperatures peaked at 8 degrees.

Temperatures at night could dip as low as minus-7, with wind chills potentially dropping to minus-28, the weather service said.

In those temperatures, frostbite can develop in fewer than 10 minutes, the weather service said.

Two overnight warming centers will remain open until 5 p.m. Monday, according to the Office of Emergency Management and Communications. They are:

  • Garfield Community Service Center at 10 S. Kedzie Ave.
  • Dr. Martin Luther King Community Service Center, at 4314 S. Cottage Grove Ave.

The Chicago Cultural Center, at 78 E. Washington, is open as a warming center Monday, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.
