Severe weather rocks Chicago area after tornado warnings issued

A Tornado Warning was issued Monday night for parts of the Chicago area.

A Tornado Warning was issued Monday night for parts of the Chicago area, according to the National Weather Service.

Severe storms caused damage throughout the area, including in LaGrange Park. On Monday evening, residents there were cleaning up downed tree branches, leaves, and other debris strewn across their yards and driveways.

High winds toss planes at Schaumburg airport

Severe weather swept through the Chicago area Monday, tossing some small planes around.

One homeowner's massive tree was completely uprooted due to the high winds. She estimated it was about 60 years old, and said it came down in a matter of 30 seconds during Monday's storm.

Thousands of people remained without power Monday evening, including some in LaGrange Park, as ComEd worked to restore service.

A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Streamwood at 6:13 p.m. and was moving east towards O’Hare Airport at 30 mph, the weather service said.

The warning expired at 7:45 p.m., the weather service said.
