1 fatally shot, 1 stabbed in Aurora bar fight
AURORA (STMW) - One man was fatally shot and another was stabbed early Saturday after bar fight in west suburban Aurora.
Police found 36-year-old Marcus Holland about 1:40 a.m. lying with multiple gunshot wounds in a parking lot behind the La Quinta De Los Reyes bar at 36 E. New York St. among a group of at least 100 people who were shouting and fighting, according to a statement from Aurora police.
A preliminary investigation suggests that someone fired shots during a fight between two groups of people who had been having a party inside the bar, police said.
The shooter ran away immediately after the shooting, police said. Holland, an Aurora resident, was pronounced dead at the scene, and an autopsy was pending Saturday at the Kane County coroner’s office.
A 22-year-old Batavia man was stabbed outside the bar just after shots were fired, police said. He was taken to an area hospital with a non-life threatening wound to his back and was released.
The suspect in the stabbing is described as a black man in his early 20s, standing 5-foot-10 and weighing 150-170 pounds, police said. He wearing a black, white, and red hoodie with a white shield on the front.
Police said most of the people at the scene were uncooperative and hostile toward police. It is not yet clear if the shooting and the stabbing are related.
Anyone with information about either the shooting or the stabbing should call Aurora police at (630) 256-5500 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000.
