14-year-old stabbed in face with scissors during fight near East Chicago school: police

A 14-year-old was hospitalized after being stabbed in the face with scissors during a fight near an East Chicago school Wednesday afternoon.

The teenage suspect is facing multiple charges after the incident. The victim was also charged. 

Police responded at 3:30 p.m. to East Chicago Lighthouse Academy, 3916 Pulaski St., for a stabbing.

When officers arrived, the principal said the victim, a 14-year-old, ran into the school asking for help after being stabbed in the left cheek.

First responders transported the teen to St. Catherine Hospital for treatment.

Following an investigation, police determined the injured teen had been in a fight with a 13-year-old outside school property. During the altercation, the 13-year-old stabbed the 14-year-old with a pair of scissors, police said.

The 13-year-old was brought to the police station by his parents and was later charged with disorderly conduct and assault with a deadly weapon.

Authorities said the 13-year-old is being held at the Lake County Juvenile Center. The victim was also charged with disorderly conduct and is still being treated at the hospital.
