3 arrested after stolen SUV from another suburb found in Naperville, police say

Three suspects were arrested in Naperville on Saturday after police tracked down a stolen SUV linked to a carjacking in another suburb.

Authorities said one of the three suspects was found hiding in a backyard shed.

What we know

Police responded at 7:11 p.m. Saturday to the 1800 block of South Washington Street after receiving reports of a stolen black GMC Acadia that was allegedly carjacked an hour earlier in another suburb.

When police arrived, they found the Acadia parked and running outside an apartment complex. Squad cars were used to block the vehicle to prevent it from leaving the lot.

Three suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot. After a brief chase, officers apprehended two suspects.

The third, seen fleeing while armed with a firearm, scaled several fences and initially evaded police, authorities said.

Officers established a perimeter and used a K9 officer to help track the suspect, who was found hiding in a shed in a resident's backyard. He was identified as 22-year-old Ezequiel Lopez-Bey, of Palatine, authorities said.

Lopez-Bey faces multiple charges, including:

  • Resisting a peace officer, a Class A misdemeanor
  • Receive, possess or sell a stolen motor vehicle or essential part, a Class 2 felony
  • Aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, a Class 4 felony
  • Aggravated fleeing and eluding, a Class 4 felony

One of the other two suspects was identified as 19-year-old Andrew De Lance, of Arlington Heights, police said.
