3 in custody after USPS carrier robbed at gunpoint in Harvey: police
HARVEY, Ill. - Three people are in custody after a U.S. Postal Service carrier was robbed at gunpoint while delivering mail in Harvey Wednesday morning, authorities said.
What we know
The letter carrier was delivering mail just before 10 a.m. in the 15800 block of S. Halsted Street when they were confronted by a male suspect.
Authorities said the suspect, armed with a black firearm and drum magazine, confronted the carrier, searched their pockets, and then stole two bins of packages and a backpack after entering the mail truck. No injuries were reported.
A short time later, U.S. Postal inspectors canvassing the area heard gunfire and pursued three individuals to a home in the 600 block of E. 157th Place.
After obtaining consent to search the home, inspectors and Harvey police detained the suspects, recovered the stolen items, and seized two firearms.
All three suspects were taken to the Harvey Police Department.
