4 released from custody after trying to prevent arrest by officers on West Side
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A group of people who intervened during an arrest Sunday afternoon in the West Garfield Park neighborhood have been released from custody without being charged.
The officers were conducting a traffic stop at 2:10 p.m. in the 4700 block of West Gladys Avenue when several people in the vehicle “intervened to prevent officers from arresting one individual from the vehicle,” Chicago police said.
Those people left the area but were arrested shortly after, police said. No weapons were displayed at officers during the encounter.
About four people, including the original person officers were trying to arrest, were being questioned, a police spokesperson said.
All four people were released without charges, police said Tuesday.
