Artillery shell discovered in Hammond prompts road closures

HAMMOND, Ind. - A bomb scare in Hammond, Indiana closed roads and had homeowners on edge Sunday.

The Porter County Bomb Squad was called in to handle a small artillery shell found in a pile of scrap metal in the 5400 block of Columbia Avenue.

The Hammond Fire Department also responded.

It’s unclear where that artillery shell came from.
