Aurora man recorded sexual acts with 13-year-old he met on social media app: prosecutors

An Aurora man has been found guilty of child sexual abuse and creating child pornography.

Ronald Lye met the 13-year-old victim on a social media app, according to prosecutors.

What we know:

Between April 1, 2020, and May 7, 2020, Lye drove to the victim's home to pick them up on multiple occasions and then brought the teenager to his home where he had sexual contact with them.

Lye recorded the sexual encounters, prosecutors said.

A judge found Lye guilty of the following offenses:

  • Manufacturing Child Pornography, Class X felony (13 Counts)
  • Possessing Child Pornography, Class 2 felony (19 counts)
  • Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, Class 2 felony (13 counts)

What they're saying:

"The victim was only 13 years of age at the time of these crimes. Despite still being a child at the time of trial, the victim testified in an open courtroom with remarkable courage, describing the details of their abuse all while facing the person who stole their innocence," said Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys Lori Schmidt.

What's next:

Lye will appear in court for sentencing on Feb. 28. The 54-year-old faces a minimum of 81 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
