Barrington man dies at University of Illinois

A 21-year-old Barrington High School graduate died Wednesday from a traumatic head injury in downstate Urbana, according to the Champaign County coroner.

Bret Vogt, a student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, was pronounced dead at 12:01 p.m. Wednesday at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, the coroner’s office said.

Vogt’s traumatic head injury does not appear to be a result of foul play, the coroner’s office said. He may have fallen and hit his head. The coroner’s office confirmed that alcohol was found in Vogt’s system.

“We are saddened to learn of the passing of 2013 BHS graduate Bret Vogt. The Barrington 220 community offers our sincere condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time,” Barrington Hill School principal Steve McWilliams said in a statement.

Vogt was president of the Illini Bass Fishing Club. The club posted the following on Facebook Thursday: “Please raise Bret, his family, and his friends up in your prayers – they are certainly appreciated at a time like this. There are no words to say except we will miss him. We hope the bass are biting in heaven.”
