Bears' Kevin Warren still wants to break ground on new lakefront stadium this year

To the 40 million Chicago Bears fans worldwide, Kevin Warren said the lakefront's Museum Campus remains the focus for the new stadium and as previously stated, they still hope to break ground this year.

The Bears' president and CEO updated reporters during a post-season presser on Tuesday. Warren said he and his staff have meetings about the new stadium every single day and despite what it looks like, they're making great progress.

Public funding for the Bears' new home was shot down following a November ballot referendum where 79% of Chicagoans polled objected to taxpayer dollars being used to subsidize the cost.

The state-of-the-art $3.2 billion enclosed stadium would include 14 acres of green and open space. Also, more than 4000 permanent jobs would be generated after construction.

Warren said right now the project deemed Chicago's "Lakefront Legacy" is exactly where it should be.

"The goal is to have shovels in the ground in 2025. I'm confident that will happen," Warren said.

Meanwhile, Arlington Heights leaders are still on board and pretty optimistic of a Bears' stadium being constructed in their suburb.
