Car fatally strikes woman crossing road in Joliet

JOLIET, Ill. - A 55-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car while crossing the road Tuesday morning in suburban Joliet.

A Nissan Sentra was traveling northbound on Larkin Avenue around 5:30 a.m. when it struck the woman who appeared to be crossing the road near Vernon Street, according to police.

Paramedics took the woman to St. Joseph Medical Center where she died. The Will County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Joy Gaines, of Joliet.

The driver of the Sentra, a 25-year-old man from Joliet, stayed at the scene of the crash. No other injuries were reported.
