Carjackings reported in Wicker Park, Humboldt Park, Avondale

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Police are cautioning residents of the Wicker Park, Humboldt Park and Avondale neighborhoods after three people were carjacked at gunpoint in recent days.

According to an alert from Area North detectives, the carjackings occurred:

  • in the 1400 block of North Wicker Park about 1:53 a.m. on July 22;
  • in the 1500 block of North Campbell about 4:30 a.m. on July 23;
  • in the 3000 block of North Troy about 1:23 a.m. on July 27.

In each case, one or two males walked up and tried to talk to to a person who was in their vehicle “before displaying a handgun and forcing them out,” police said. In one instance, the victim was standing outside his car as it warmed up.

One or two black males committed each carjacking, police said. One wore a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans and had black, braided hair. The other wore a red shirt, blue jeans and a gray sweatshirt. He also wore “a safari hat.”
