Charges filed in Hammond homicide; police believe suspect may be in Chicago

Formal charges have been filed against a 39-year-old man in connection with a homicide in northwest Indiana on Dec. 27, and authorities believe he may be in Chicago.

An Indiana man who was on the run after being charged in his ex-wife's murder is now in custody, authorities said.

Allen Woods, 39, is charged in the Dec. 27 shooting death of Tiffany Woods in Hammond, Ind., according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

After a lengthy search, Woods was arrested Wednesday in Chicago.

Authorities said Woods publicly shot Tiffany multiple times in the afternoon on Dec. 27.

The investigation led officers to believe Woods fled Indiana and went to the Chicagoland area to avoid arrest.

At 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, authorities received a tip about a man matching Woods' description being seen near the 1200 block of South Canal Street.

Members of the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, Chicago police, and the Illinois Department of Corrections responded and arrested Woods at a local establishment.

The investigation is ongoing. We'll bring more updates to this story as they become available.
