Charges filed in Hammond homicide; police believe suspect may be in Chicago

Formal charges have been filed against a 39-year-old man in connection with a homicide in northwest Indiana on Dec. 27, and authorities believe he may be in Chicago.

An Indiana man charged in the murder of his ex-wife is on the run and authorities believe he may be in Chicago. 

Allen Woods, 39, is charged in the death of his ex-wife Tiffany Woods on Dec. 27 in Hammond, Ind., according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Officers initially responded to the scene for shots fired, which prompted an ongoing investigation that led to the charges against Allen.

"We are committed to ensuring justice is served in this case," said Hammond Police Chief William Short. "Our officers and detectives worked diligently to gather evidence and secure the necessary charges."

Allen's last known location is believed to be in the 200 block of E Walton Street in Chicago, the U.S. Marshals Service said. 

He was wearing a black jacket, thick black glasses and may be traveling by public transportation, according to authorities.
