Victims seeking to sell items online robbed at gunpoint on Chicago’s South Side
CHICAGO - Multiple people looking to sell items through social media have been robbed at gunpoint in recent days after meeting the phony buyer in person on Chicago’s South Side.
The armed robberies took place over the last week in the Washington Park neighborhood, according to Chicago police.

What we know:
In both cases, the victim and offenders communicated via social media and agreed to sell or purchase an item.
When the victims arrived at an agreed-upon spot, one of the offenders met with the victim.
Shortly afterward, several other offenders would arrive and display a handgun, demanding the victim’s property.
The offenders then fled on foot.
The incidents happened in the 6300 block of South Calumet Avenue, one time on Feb. 5 around 7:50 p.m. and a second time on Feb. 8 at 5:14 p.m.

Police described the offenders as between two and seven African American males. They did not provide any more details.
