Chicago fatal shooting: Elderly man killed in car on South Side
CHICAGO - An 80-year-old man was shot and killed Wednesday morning while sitting in a car on Chicago's South Side.
What we know:
The man was sitting in a vehicle around 10 a.m. in the 1400 block of West 90th Street, when another car pulled up alongside him and someone inside started shooting, according to police.
The victim has been identified by family members as James Stroud, 80.
According to police scanner audio, Stroud had pulled over momentarily to take a phone call.
A witness called 911 and described hearing a series of five gunshots ring out near 90th and Bishop.
"Then he stated someone was shot inside of a burgundy SUV four-door. Caller had no other information," a dispatcher said over the police scanner.
The elderly man was shot once in the head and once in the back. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
His driver’s side window was riddled with bullet holes.
No arrests have been made. Area Two detectives are leading the investigation.
What we don't know:
While police haven't shared information about the suspect's vehicle, police scanner reveals what the car might look like.
"I’m still getting a Mitsubishi. A newer sedan, black Mitsubishi sedan with tinted windows," an officer said over the police scanner.
"Ok and a bit of conflict on which type of vehicle the offender was in. It could be a GMC, it could be a black Mitsubishi sedan with tint," someone else replied over the scanner.
Police have not said how many suspects they believe were involved in the shooting.
