Chicago fugitive on FBI's Most Wanted List for wedding night killing captured in Mexico

A Chicago man on the FBI’s Most Wanted List who is accused of killing his wife on their wedding night in 2012 has been apprehended in Mexico, authorities said.

What we know:

Arnoldo Jimenez was arrested in Monterrey, Mexico, on Jan. 30 by agents of the Fiscalia General de la Republica, in conjunction with Interpol, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

FBI Chicago, FBI San Antonio, FBI LEGAT Mexico City, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois collaborated to locate Jimenez prior to his arrest.

The backstory:

On May 13, 2012, Estrella Carrera was found dead in the bathtub of her apartment less than 48 hours after marrying Jimenez, authorities said.

Jimenez is accused of stabbing Carrera to death in her Burbank apartment. She was reportedly wearing the same dress she had worn to the wedding reception.

Jimenez was charged with first-degree murder in Cook County on May 13, and a state warrant was issued for his arrest on May 17 after he was charged federally with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, according to the Dept. of Justice.

The FBI and Burbank Police Department were committed to bringing justice for Estrella Carrera and her family," said Deputy Chief William Casey of the Burbank Police Department.

Jimenez will remain in custody pending extradition proceedings.
