Chicago man charged after shooting 2 during burial service at Evergreen Park cemetery

A 23-year-old Chicago man is facing charges after shooting two people during a burial service at an Evergreen Park cemetery, authorities said.

Arrest Made in Cemetery Shooting 

What we know:

The Cook County Sheriff's Office responded to St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Evergreen Park on Wednesday for a reported shooting.

Deputies learned the suspect shot a 25-year-old man and a 24-year-old man after a fight broke out during the service. 

Both victims were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities also learned the suspect pointed a gun at a third person, but no other injuries were reported. 

Finding the Suspect :

Roger Nava, the suspect, was located near the cemetery and taken into custody. Two firearms were recovered from his possession. 

Investigators later confirmed Nava was the shooter.

The Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved three counts of attempted first-degree murder against Nava on Thursday, Jan. 30.

What's next:

Nava is scheduled for an initial court appearance on Friday at the Markham Courthouse.
