Chicago man charged with murder in Southwest Side shooting last year
CHICAGO - A 28-year-old Chicago man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with a deadly shooting on the city's Southwest Side last year.
Luis Vela was arrested Thursday in the 3000 block of S. Farrell after being identified as a suspect in the July 4, 2023, shooting in the 4400 block of S. Wood, according to Chicago police.

Police said Vela got out of a vehicle and opened fire on two men who were outside in the area.
A 24-year-old man was shot multiple times and died at the scene, authorities said. A 25-year-old man was also shot and critically injured.
Vela is expected in court on Dec. 29 for a detention hearing.
