Chicago man charged with hiding camera in school bathroom

FOX 32 / SUN-TIMES - Bond was set at $75,000 Friday for a man charged with putting a camera in the bathroom of a Near North Side elementary school bathroom.

Elliott Nott, 41, faces seven counts of unauthorized videotaping and one count of child pornography, according to Chicago Police. He lives in the 4800 block of North Spaulding.

On Sept. 7, he put a motion-activated video camera in a bathroom at Ogden Elementary School, 24 W. Walton St., police allege. Messages with the school’s principal were not immediately returned Friday.

Parents had the difficult task of explaining why they would no longer be seeing their music teacher at school.

“My kids really look up to him,” said parent Graham Agcaoili. “I was really surprised because he was a very, very, kind, well-mannered person to my son."

"The images and videos include those of multiple members of school staff using the restroom on multiple occasions, as well as one child who had special permission to use the bathroom,” said Assistant’s State’s Attorney Melissa Howlett.

Although Nott is said to have no criminal history, his attorney says he has one arrest but no convictions.

"We do not believe, again if any of the allegations are true, that there was any intent to videotape children,” said Nott’s attorney Mark Basile.

Nott lives in the 4800 block of North Spaulding. A judge ordered him held on a $75,000 bond, and he is due in court again Oct. 12, according to Cook County Circuit Court records.

"That's terrible because we all have to come together as parents. These are children," said parent Joseph Thomas.

"I don't know how to approach it because it caught me off guard too. Out of all the people, he's the last person," Agcaoili said.
