Chicago man's pre-trial release revoked after new theft charges
DUPAGE COUNTY - A Chicago man accused of stealing merchandise from a Dick’s Sporting Goods store in Bloomingdale had his pre-trial release revoked after authorities said he violated the terms of his previous release by committing another theft.
On Saturday, Robert Layanino allegedly walked out of the Dick's located on Army Trail Road with more than $300 in clothing without paying. He was taken into custody a short time later, about a mile from the scene.
Layanino, 28, was already on pre-trial release for a similar incident in June 2024, when he allegedly stole 13 pairs of gym shoes from a Dick’s Warehouse in Naperville.

"Pre-trial release is not intended to give a defendant another opportunity to commit a crime," DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. "If you are granted pre-trial release, you must abide by those conditions, and if you do not, you will find yourself behind bars pending trial."
Layanino faces one count of burglary, a Class 2 felony, and one count of retail theft, a Class 3 felony, related to the Bloomingdale incident. He will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Jan. 27, 2025.
