Chicago Police officer hit by vehicle fleeing traffic stop
CHICAGO (STMW) - A Chicago Police officer was injured when he was struck by a vehicle fleeing a traffic stop early Thursday in the South Shore neighborhood on the South Side.
During a traffic stop in the 7300 block of South Jeffery Avenue at 12:30 a.m., the officer asked the driver to exit the vehicle, police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines said. The driver did not comply, but instead put the vehicle in drive.
The vehicle struck the officer as it drove away, Gaines said. The officer was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver was not in custody as of Thursday morning, Gaines said.
