Chicago police fatally shoot knife-wielding man in Little Village apartment

A man was shot and killed by Chicago police early Friday morning after allegedly advancing toward officers with a knife in the Little Village neighborhood.

The shooting happened around 2:10 a.m. when officers responded to a report of a person with a knife in a sixth-floor apartment in the 3000 block of West 21st Place. Police said that as they knocked on the door, a man armed with a knife confronted them and advanced. Officers started shooting, striking the man multiple times.

Officers administered aid to the man, who was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Two officers involved were also taken to a hospital for observation.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is leading the investigation into the shooting.

The officers involved have been placed on routine administrative duties for at least 30 days, per department policy. COPA is asking anyone with information to contact them at (312) 746-3609.
