Police said Vazquez was responsible for the girl's death in the 500 block of North Springfield Avenue on Dec. 20, 2024.
Court documents state Vazquez admitted to police and family members that she strangled her daughter. She claimed there were "voices in her head" and the "devil told her to kill the child," documents say.
When officers arrived, Vazquez was described as "incoherent" and had reportedly tried to prevent her sister from calling the police.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the girl's death a homicide, primarily due to asphyxia.
Vazquez will remain in custody until her next court date on Tuesday.
