Cook County inmate indicted after drug-soaked paper found in his pants: sheriff
COOK COUNTY, Ill. - A 23-year-old man in custody at Cook County Jail has been indicted after drug-soaked paper strips were discovered in his pants during a search, authorities said.
The contraband was recovered on Sept. 5 when staff searched Anthony Aguirre, who has been in custody since December 2020 on murder and attempted murder charges, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
The strips were sent to the Illinois State Police forensic lab for testing, where they later tested positive for synthetic cannabinoids.
Aguirre was indicted by a Cook County grand jury on Nov. 21.
According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, there have been 62 charges related to possessing or smuggling drug-soaked paper so far this year.
The sheriff's office said it will "aggressively pursue criminal charges against anyone attempting to bring these dangerous substances into the jail."
