Cook County sheriff arrests Chicago man for failing to register as a sex offender

Jerry Williams

A 51-year-old man was arrested in Chicago for failing to register as a sex offender after an investigation by the Cook County Sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit and the U.S. Marshals Taskforce.

Jerry Williams, who had an outstanding arrest warrant from Cook County for violating sex offender registration laws, was taken into custody following a search for unregistered and non-compliant sex offenders.

Williams had been convicted in 1994 of aggravated criminal sexual assault, which required him to register annually as a sex offender.

However, authorities discovered he had not complied with the registration requirement since 2016.

Investigators from the Fugitive Apprehension Unit located Williams in Chicago, where he was arrested.

He was subsequently charged with Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.

Williams appeared for his initial hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court Building, where a judge ordered him released on pretrial adult probation services.
