CHICAGO - Firefighters battled a blaze that broke out Thursday morning at a building in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood.
The fire started around 4 a.m. in an abandoned building at 2938 W. 63rd St., according to the Chicago Fire Department.
Officials said there were people inside the building when the fire broke out, but there were no reported injuries. Firefighters rescued one person from the second floor.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Late Thursday night, CFD released the following update, saying in part:
"Although this fire was extinguished a final search could not be conducted due to structural safety issues. CFD will return to the scene with demolition techs to complete the final search process Friday morning."
