CTA bus crash: 8 hospitalized after vehicle strikes light pole

A CTA bus crashed into a light pole Monday afternoon in Chicago's Near West Side neighborhood.

Around 12:30 p.m., police say the bus – being driven by a 36-year-old woman – was traveling northbound in the 0-100 block of S. Ashland Ave. when another vehicle came into its lane.

The driver of the bus swerved to avoid a collision and then came to a stop after striking a light pole on the sidewalk.

The driver of the bus was transported to Stroger Hospital with a knee injury and in good condition, police said. Seven passengers on the bus – four women and three men – were all transported to nearby hospitals for minor injuries, and were all in good condition.

No citations were issued.
