Deadly I-55 shooting shuts down traffic coming into Chicago
CHICAGO - One person was killed in a shooting on the Stevenson Expressway Wednesday morning, temporarily stalling inbound traffic heading into Chicago.
The shooting happened around 2 a.m., causing a single-car crash on the I-55 northbound ramp to I-94 southbound ramp near Halsted Street, according to Illinois State Police. One person was pronounced dead at the scene. The Cook County medical examiner's office has not yet released their identity.
Inbound lanes of I-55 were closed between the inbound Dan Ryan Expressway and the Chinatown feeder ramp/Cermak Road. All lanes of the Stevenson Expressway reopened around 8:45 a.m.
