Driver arrested in hit-and-run death of 21-year-old college student
REDONDO BEACH, Calif. (FOX 11) - Police have arrested 21-year-old Leila Gonzalez of Bell for the hit-and-run death of a college student at a Redondo Beach intersection on Saturday night.
Gonzalez was arrested on Monday and booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run in connection with the death of 21-year-old Angelina Pinedo.
Police say Pinedo was crossing the street with her sister just after 9 p.m. near the intersection of Aviation Boulevard and Grant Avenue when she was struck by a black Audi SUV. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities found the car involved in the crash at about 8:20 a.m. on Sunday. They say the damage from the collision rendered the car inoperable.
Pinedo, a junior at San Francisco State University, was in town visiting family and was the youngest of six siblings. The family described her as a "gentle soul."
