Federal judge blocks Illinois laws that limit contributions in judicial races

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Ahead of the November election, a federal judge blocked laws that limit contributions in judicial races.

The laws passed in Illinois earlier this year.

They banned contributions of more than $500,000 per election cycle from a single source for judicial candidates.

A conservative legal group argued it violated free speech rights.
