Fireworks will return to the Chicago Riverwalk on New Year’s Eve, the city announced on Monday.

The fireworks will be visible along the Chicago River along Upper Wacker Drive from McClurg Court to Franklin Street, according to an announcement from the city. The celebration will include a clock countdown projected onto the side of the Merchandise Mart.

The fireworks will be launched from six of the bridges along the river.

"New Year’s is a time when we gather with friends and family to reflect on what’s been and what’s yet to come," said Mayor Brandon Johnson in a statement. "We’re inviting residents and visitors to come together along the Riverwalk and welcome the New Year with a celebration of what makes Chicago the most beautiful, iconic and vibrant city in the world."

For the display, the following streets will be closed:

Bridges will be closed to traffic and pedestrians at Orleans, La Salle, Clark, Dearborn, State and Columbus on December 31 from 11:45 p.m. to 12:15 a.m.

Note that additional streets and bridges may close as the countdown to midnight draws close

Spectators are encouraged to use public transportation for the best experience.

There will also be a special Art on the Mart show with a selection of past projections starting at 10 p.m.

The official countdown begins at 11:55 p.m.
