Ice, snow and rain hit Chicago area

Snow and ice storm brings down trees

Inclement weather moved in over the Midwest Sunday morning, and caused issues in the Chicago region ranging from ice falling from buildings downtown to at least one vehicle sliding from the road in the north suburbs.

In the Loop by afternoon, police tape was seen stretching across a sidewalk on Stetson Ave., barring people from crossing it as the danger of falling ice loomed from a building.

In North Chicago, drivers were forced to navigate through snow fall. In Zion, trees snapped under the added weight of icy limbs. One fell onto a home.

The weather also caused the cancellation of the Chicago Cubs game “due to the forecast for inclement weather throughout the day,” the organization tweeted at about 10:30 a.m.

“We're in the Midwest. We're kind of used to this,” said Mike Guenther, who was at Wrigley with his 8-year-old son Ethan.

The game was to be Ethan’s first. Both thought the Cubs should have played the game.

"It's a little unusual for a game to be canceled in this kind of rain,” Ethan said.
