I-55 crash

What we know:

Around 7:48 a.m., two ISP troopers were inside their squad cars, handling a crash on the shoulder I-55 near the Harlem Avenue exit when they were struck by a Honda Accord, police said.

The Honda crashed into the rear of one of the parked squad cars and then sideswiped the second police vehicle. ISP said both cars had their emergency lights activated at the time of the crash.

One trooper and their K9 partner reported minor injuries.

The driver of the Honda, 20-year-old Gabriel S. Owens of Sauk Village, was charged with driving too fast for conditions and a Scott's Law violation.

The crash scene was relocated off of I-55 to clear up the roadway.

ISP has reported two Scott's Law-related crashes so far this year. Scott's Law requires drivers to move over for emergency vehicles when its emergency or hazard lights are activated.

Violators of Scott's Law face a fine of between $250 and $10,000 for a first offense. If the violation results in injury or death of another person, the driver's license will be suspended between six months and two years.
