Indiana police chase: Stolen SUV driver arrested after hitting patrol cars, parked truck

A 30-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after leading police on a chase in a stolen SUV, striking two patrol cars and a parked truck in Indiana, authorities said.

The incident began around 3:30 p.m. when a Lake County officer attempted a traffic stop on a stolen Honda Pilot near 61st Avenue and Marcella Boulevard in Hobart.

The driver of the SUV backed into the officer’s patrol car before fleeing west on 61st Avenue toward Interstate 65, the Lake County Sheriff said.

The SUV struck a second patrol vehicle during another attempted stop before exiting onto eastbound Ridge Road. The vehicle then hit a parked pickup truck and came to a stop.

No injuries were reported, though two police patrol cars were damaged, officials said.

The driver, who has not been identified, faces potential charges of auto theft, fleeing law enforcement, battery with a deadly weapon and reckless driving.

The investigation is ongoing.
