Josiah Shaw murder: Family demands justice for toddler killed 17 years ago
GARY, Ind. - A family’s search for justice remains steadfast 17 years after the murder of 13-month-old Josiah Shaw in Gary, Indiana.
Family members gathered Tuesday for a memorial to honor Josiah’s memory and to call for information that could solve the case.
What we know:
On Jan. 28, 2008, Josiah’s mother, Kwana Shaw, was buckling him into his car seat when a man approached, shot her, and stole the car with Josiah still in the back seat. Police found the toddler two hours later, still strapped into his car seat, suffering from gunshot wounds to his pelvis and chin.
Josiah died from his injuries, while Kwana survived the attack.
At the memorial, Josiah’s grandmother, Donna Shaw, made an emotional plea to the public.
"This case should have never taken this long because there’s someone out there who knows what happened," she said. "Why? He was an innocent 13-month-old child."
Josiah’s father was once named a person of interest but was never charged.
Officials at the event reiterated that the investigation is ongoing, emphasizing that the case is not considered cold.
