Law enforcement in Lake County arrested a woman suspected of attempting to rob a gas station clerk on New Year’s Day.

The attempted robbery happened around 12:25 p.m. at a gas station in the 36800 block of North Route 83 in unincorporated Lake Villa, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office. According to authorities, a woman entered the store, implied she was armed and demanded money from the clerk.

When the clerk refused, the woman attempted to break into the cash register herself. Unable to access the money, she fled the scene in a black SUV with out-of-state license plates.

Using Flock license plate reader technology, deputies identified the suspect vehicle as a Ford Expedition. A countywide alert was issued, and Gurnee police officers later located the vehicle after a Flock camera registered a hit on its license plate.

The suspect, 40-year-old Christina A. Lintner of Gurnee, was taken into custody near Grand Avenue and Hunt Club Road. Deputies transported her to the Lake County Jail.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Lintner with attempted aggravated robbery. She was scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning, where prosecutors plan to petition for her detention while awaiting trial.
